Andy Akervik was Eau Claire's all-time scoring leader from the time he graduated in 1985 until 2007, when Seth Soley and Justin Johnson passed him. He also played Division One college hockey at the University of Wisconsin and professional hockey here and abroad. He was the first hockey player from Eau Claire to don an NHL sweater and played in pre-season games with two teams. Akervik played on the Memorial High School "Skeleton Crew" in his junior year. They were the first Eau Claire team to make it to the WIAA State Tournament.

Since returning to Eau Claire, Andy has served as an assistant coach at Memorial and North.

Andy lives in Eau Claire with his wife, Caroline, and their three children. He is an accountant with Xcel Energy. Andy's father, the late Wally Akervik, coached UW-Superior and UW-Eau Claire to National Championships and won 235 games as a college coach. The second rink at the Hobbs Municipal Ice Center is named after Wally Akervik.
