Mark Froehle was from Minnesota. At the time of his retirement, he was the winningest coach in Memorial High history. His friendship with North coach Tom Kuklinski set the tone for the Memorial-North rivalry in hockey, intense but friendly. Mark's friendship with announcer Mike Sullivan led to a career as a radio color man. Sullivan called Mark Froehle "the best color commentator" he had ever had. Mark's rich baritone voice, his knowledge  of the game, and his ability to "fit" with Sullivan made for an outstanding combination.

As a coach, he took the first city team ever to the State Tournament in Madison in 1984. He was named Big Rivers Conference Coach of the Year five times and served a term as President of the Wisconsin Hockey Coaches Association. He was very proud of the fact that he coached both of his sons, Jason and Jeremy, at the WIAA State Tournament.
