Paul McLaughlin played forward and defense for the Abes. He is the younger brother of Mickey McLaughlin (1976-78). Paul was on the first Memorial team to beat Rice Lake (2/23/79). Mark Froehle switched him to defense in his senior year and he responded by earning All-Northwest Hockey Conference Honorable Mention honors.

Like many other players, Paul has given back to the sport of hockey, coaching youth teams for 13 years in Minnesota. He coached the Duluth Junior "C" Team from 1989-95 and made it to the State Finals in '93. His 1996-97 Hibbing Community College team placed 3rd in the National Tournament. Paul still lives in Hibbing.
