Ned Ostenso posted the first Memorial win and first shutout on December 30th, 1975, a 3-0 win over Barron. Ostenso was an outstanding goaltender, but frequently was bombarded by enemy shots. A good example was the first meeting ever between the Abes and Superior. The powerhouse Superior team slaughtered the overmatched Abes, 15-1, in the WIAA Tournament game. But the Superior coach and players were unanimous in their praise of Ostenso, who stopped 45 of 60 shots! Ned's brother, Erik, was a defenseman for Memorial.
Ned went on to become a successful attorney in Hopkins, Minnesota, and has remained a supporter of youth hockey in that area.
