Brian Riste played for Memorial's first varsity hockey team and went into the history books by drawing the first penalty ever in an Eau Claire high school game (a slashing call at 4:12 of the first period on 12/26/75). Riste had the 2nd Old Abes' hat trick against Winona Cotter on 1/16/76. His final goal was a power play goal against Eau Claire North in his final game, a 3-2 loss in the WIAA Tournament.
