Matt "Ernie" Thorp possessed one of the "heaviest" slap shots in North High history. He led the Huskies in scoring in his junior season and then left to play Junior Hockey. At that time, Ernie's 28 goals were the most ever by a Huskies' defenseman (a mark since passed by Derrick La Point's 32 goals.) Ernie played Junior hockey for a few years and also played college hockey at UW-River Falls and UW-Stevens Point. He also had stints with two pro teams, the Knoxville Speed and the Rockford IceHogs. Ernie is now a sales representative for VHC Athletics and an assistant coach at Lawrence University in Appleton. He and his wife, Amy, have four children, Amanda, Marcus, Natalie, and Rylee.
