Mummy Movies
The 1932 and 1999/2001 versions compared in detail...
Other Mummy movies (with reviews if I have personally seen them):
The Mummy's Hand (1940) Has some funny moments. Takes quite a while to get going. Rips off a bunch of footage from the flashbacks in the Karloff mummy film. o_0 The mummy has little or no personality here. He is named Kharis, but his backstory is nearly identical to Karloff's Imhotep. The Princess is Ananka. This movie features another instance of a sacred pool offering flashback images. A group of Karnak priests watch over Kharis and Ananka's tombs, sort of like the Med-Jai, but are nowhere near as effective or charismatic about it. :-p You also have to wonder about the sort of research that was involved when they say one of the characters excavated Incan ruins in Mexico! o_0 One odd similarity between a scene here and one in the 1999 Sommers film... The hero finds a pot with interesting carvings and brings it to a museum curator. The curator, who is secretly allied with the tomb's guardians, calls the pot a fake, says that other expeditions to find such a tomb have never returned, and then "accidentally" drops the pot and breaks it. Compare this to the scene early in The Mummy, where Johnathan and Evy bring the map of Hamunaptra to the curator, who is secretly allied with the Med-Jai. He says that Hamunaptra is a silly myth, expeditions sent to find it have never returned, and then "accidentally" burns off part of the map in a candle! Odd!
The Mummy (1932) (see the above link for a detailed view of this movie)
The Mummy's Ghost (1944)
The Mummy's Curse (1944)
The Mummy's Tomb (1942)
Curse of the Mummy (1971 TV movie)
The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb (1964)
Ancient Evil: Scream of the Mummy (2000) Hilariously stupid, although it takes itself very seriously. The mummy this time is Aztec, not Egyptian, and arises on a college campus to do the bidding of his master...the biggest nerd on campus and the worst actor I've seen in a long time! Campy idiocy ensues. So bad you have to laugh at it.
The Mummy and the Curse of the Jackals (1969)
Tale of the Mummy (1998)
The Mummy (1959)
Dawn of the Mummy (1981) Dreadful film about a group of fashion models on a photo shoot in Egypt who awaken a bloodthirsty mummy. Predictable with bad acting.
We Want Our Mummy (1930, 3 Stooges)
Legend of the Mummy (1997, Bram Stoker) Slow and campy, lots of buildup but not much happens. The ending is just bizarre and leaves you going, "Huh?" Not terrible but not really good, either.
The Mummy (1999, Stephen Sommers) IMHO, the best mummy movie ever made!
The Mummy Returns (2001) A close second for the best mummy movie ever! ;-)
The Mummy Lives (1993)
The Mummy's Shroud (1967)
